Sports Utility Vehicle segment (SUV) now more and more favored by the community, competing fiercely with Multi Purpose Vehicle models (MPV) dan Low Cost Green Car (LCGC). One of the main reasons many people switch to choosing SUVs is their tough design and ability to be more adaptive on various types of road terrain. In this case, Japanese car manufacturer, Mazda, are also actively playing in this market with the various SUV models they offer.
Mazda, with a reputation for innovation in design and technology, optimistic that their SUV sales on 2025 will experience a significant increase. This was conveyed by the Chief Operating Officer (COO) PT Eurokars Motor Indonesia, Ricky Thio, which stated that the SUV segment will increasingly dominate the Indonesian automotive market next year.
According to Ricky, The trend of vehicles that previously dominated the market, such as sedans, is now starting to fade. “Non-SUV cars, like a sedan, now it looks more like a more segmented option, is no longer the primary choice,” said Ricky when attending the Mazda 7G Expedition 2025.
This shift in consumer preferences is caused by various factors, one of which is the increasingly dynamic and modern SUV design. “Today's SUVs are no longer like the jeeps of the past which had a boxy and stiff design. Now, SUVs are more elegant and have dimensions that suit the needs of people who prioritize practicality,” added Ricky.
SUVs are now preferred because they are more practical and comfortable for everyday use, apart from its more modern image. With spacious cabin space and higher ground clearance, SUVs can traverse various types of terrain with ease, both in urban areas and on more challenging roads. “People are now getting bigger and healthier, so they need a more spacious and comfortable vehicle like an SUV,” said Ricky, which illustrates changes in vehicle trends that are now being chosen more by young families.
Besides that, Today's SUV designs are more stylish and some are even called crossovers, which is getting closer to sedans in terms of aerodynamics and comfort. This is a special attraction for consumers who are looking for a car that is not only functional, but also looks modern and stylish.
