OTODIVA-The Myth of electric vehicles still haunts today. Even though electric vehicles have started to become a trend on the streets of Indonesia. Moreover, the phenomenon of a small compact car often milling around in the capital. Yes, the tiny car is the Wuling Air ev.
It’s no secret that women really like small cars with calm colors. Wuling Air ev itself has five colors marketed, ranging from white, yellow, pink, blue, and green. Although many are interested, the myth of electric vehicles still exists in their minds, especially about safety.
According to Public Relations Manager of PT SGMW Motor Indonesia, Brian Gomgom revealed that internal research at his company made Wuling finally release a small electric car that could fit only four people.

“The research that we have obtained, most people who own a Wuling car are usually only for a maximum of four passengers in it. The distance traveled when carrying an electric car is usually only about 50 kilometers, ” said Brian during the Wuling Air ev DriveXperience with the Indonesian Women Journalists Forum (FJPI) at the Pondok Indah number yesterday.
According to Brian Gomgom, electric cars are already well accepted in society. In fact, from August last year to June 2023, the total number of Wuling Air EVs sold reached 9700 units. This he called a good start of the electric car market.

even so, indeed, myths related to electric cars still haunt. Especially related to the stun flowed by electric cars, to battery anxiety that hit novice owners of electric cars.
Here are some electric vehicle myths that often haunt electric car owners:
1. Battery Anxiety
according to Gomgom, one of the concerns of electric car owners is when the battery runs out. No wonder many people focus on looking at the battery percentage on the dashboard. In fact, he said, like the Wuling Air ev which has two Mileage Variants (Long Range 300 kilometers and Standard Range around 200 kilometers), what must be seen should be the mileage indicator. So even though the battery is in 20 percent condition, but the mileage is still 50 kilometers left, we can still arrive if the location we are going to is still 30 kilometers away.
“So in essence, what is seen is the mileage, not the remaining battery percentage indicator. If the mileage indicator is below 50 kilometers, it is better to immediately look for the nearest electric car charging point,” said Gomgom.
2. The sound of UFOs
when electric cars pass, people around are often surprised by the sound that is quite futuristic, some even have no sound at all. This is not abnormal, but a voice module to warn pedestrians so that they are aware of passing electric cars.
3. Electric cars electrocute when washed
The name is indeed an electric car, and it is equipped with a lithium-ion battery. This battery is the same as the power used for smartphones. It’s just that the shape is larger and heavier. Well, just like the smartphone battery, there is a protector that prevents it from issuing a random stun. Its name is IP67 standard. IP stands for Ingress Protection, which is the protection technology on the device. The number 6 means that the battery is free of dust and dirt, while the number 7 refers to the degree of protection against water. The water in question is up to 1 meter deep.
So, an electric car battery like the Wuling Air ev will not shock anyone who touches it, especially when the car is washed or exposed to rainwater when used on the streets.
4. The battery must be full
just like a smartphone, the battery indicator will show 100 when fully charged and 0 percent when completely discharged. Well, the thing to remember is, the battery does not need to be charged or plugged in for a long time. Gomgom provides tips for electric car batteries to last for years.
“When the battery is about to run out, there will be an indicator when it reaches 5 percent. Di sini Wuling Air ev juga punya mode penghemat baterai atau Battery Safe Mode. Well, do not wait for the battery to run out to zero percent. Try not less than 5 percent, then do the charging. While charging should not be full 100 percent, it can be below that,” said Gomgom.
Wuling Air ev has a battery capacity of 26.7 Kwh which if calculated per Kwh is only about 1700 rupiah so you can compare the cost of charging an electric car with a gasoline car that costs Rp14, 000 per liter. Oia, Wuling Air ev needs charging for 8 hours to reach full power or 100 percent. If it is full power, the mileage can reach 300 kilometers (for the Long Range variant).
Electric cars have quite interesting advantages if the myth of electric vehicles no longer exists in society. In addition to not having to fill up on gasoline, the purchase price is cheap. For example, Wuling Air ev which only ranges from Rp250 million. Moreover, using electric cars today can be used at any time because it passes odd even.
