Autodiva – In a press conference at the Beijing International Automotive Exhibition 2024, Lei Jun, Chairman and CEO Xiaomi Group, revealed that Xiaomi SU7 has received lock-in orders (non-refundable deposit) as much as 75.723 unit, with 5.781 the unit has been shipped on 24 April, only 28 days after its initial launch.
Lei Jun shares some demographic insights about SU7 buyers. Among them, 28% is a woman, 29% currently drives a BMW, Mercedes Benz, and Audi (all three are known as BBA in China), And 51,9% are Apple users.
Lei Jun stated that Xiaomi is increasing production for the SU7. Standard and Max versions start shipping in 18 April, with a Pro version scheduled for the end of May. Xiaomi aims to go beyond 10.000 Monthly delivery in June. The chairman emphasized that Xiaomi has long manufacturing experience 14 year despite being a new player as a car manufacturer.
At Zhejiang Auto Racing, a Grade circuit 2 FIA approved, Xiaomi SU7 Max records lap times 1 minute 42,163 seconds when equipped with Pirelli PZERO tires 5. This time record surpasses the Taycan Turbo S and Model S Plaid. When the tires were replaced with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2R (semi-slick), the lap time is reduced to 1 minute 38,043 second, rivaling the performance of the Lotus Eletre R+.
SU7 sized 4.997/1963/1455 mm with wheelbase 3.000 mm. The Max variant has power 495 kW, torque 838 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 2,78 second, top speed 265 km/hour. Xiaomi claims drag coefficient 0,195 Cd for SU7, lowest among production vehicles.
For upcoming OTA updates, HyperOS 1.1.0 will introduce features like wireless CarPlay support, remote control parking, urban navigation, valet parking (beta), and four additional NFC devices that can be used as car keys.
HyperOS 1.2.0 is scheduled to launch at the end of May. This operating system will add features such as advanced urban navigation (for ten additional cities), better perception of the road surface, automatic valet parking, blind spot detection, adaptive HUD adjustments, and assistance with maintaining the course.
The sales volume of the Xiaomi SU7 is a source of envy for legacy automakers, especially during the price war in Mainland China. Even the likes of Tesla and BYD have lowered the prices of their vehicles during the price war. Xiaomi's strategic expansion plans include increasing the number of sales outlets and service centers to cover 46 city with 219 shop and 86 city with 143 service point at the end of the year 2024.
