Autodiva – The government plans to implement a motor vehicle tax option (PKB) and the opportunity to change the name of a motorized vehicle (BBNKB) is a serious concern for automotive industry players. One of which is Toyota, who admitted he was surprised by the policy. However, they realize this is a new challenge that must be faced.
Marketing Director PT Toyota-Astra Motor (TAM), Anton Jimmi Suwandy, conveyed his views at the All New Toyota Hilux Rangga test drive event in Surabaya. According to him, It has never been thought that the application of this tax option would affect the selling price of vehicles.
"Never Thought" Anton revealed that next year's automotive market is predicted to face big challenges. “Looking at the current conditions, next year will be quite challenging, That doesn't mean we are pessimistic, but the fact is that it is like that,he said.
He added that the tax opportunity was previously considered only as a redistribution from the provincial government to the city/district, apparently has the potential to increase costs. This is exacerbated by the increase in Value Added Tax (PPN) as big as 1 percent.
Evaluation Required Anton hopes that the government will re-evaluate the implementation of this option. “With the existing economic conditions, it may not be the right time to increase these taxes,” he said.
In Jakarta itself, vehicle tax option does not apply, but the DKI Jakarta area only contributes approx 20 percent of the total national automotive market. The rest, 80 percent, are outside Jakarta, where the tax increase will be felt most strongly.
Hope for Further Incentives, Anton said that the central and regional governments were discussing ways to minimize the impact of this policy. He also touched on the statement made by the Minister of Industry, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, at the GJAW event 2024 which stated that the government was working on various subsidies and incentives for the automotive industry.
Regional Competition Anton highlighted the importance of maintaining the competitiveness of the national automotive industry amidst intense competition in the ASEAN region. “We see the economic impact in other countries such as Vietnam and Thailand, whose automotive market is declining due to intense competition. Don't let that happen in Indonesia,he stressed.
Optimism for the Future Ends the statement, Anton expressed his confidence that the government will continue to support the automotive industry so that it continues to grow and develop. “Hopefully, This policy will continue to be evaluated and the automotive market can grow again next year,” he concluded hopefully.
