Sales of electric cars in Indonesia continue to experience a significant surge. Factors such as battery life, affordable prices, and increasingly adequate infrastructure is the main driver. Both the government and automotive manufacturers are actively addressing these challenges to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles.

Automotive observer from the Bandung Institute of Technology, Yannes Martinus Pasaribu, revealed that the EV market in Indonesia still has great potential and has not yet reached saturation point. Throughout the year 2024, Electric car sales reached 43.188 unit, or increase by 153 percent compared to the previous year.

This sharp increase was also driven by consumer confidence in the quality of electric vehicles. Manufacturers are now increasingly aggressive in ensuring the quality of their products, including battery life and travel range, even by providing a lifetime guarantee on key components such as the battery.

Yannes added that consumers are starting to understand the economic advantages of electric cars. Apart from being more economical in terms of fuel, Maintenance costs are much lower than conventional engine vehicles.

The variety of electric vehicle models now available on the Indonesian market also provides more choices for consumers. With prices starting to compete with fossil fuel cars, Consumers are increasingly interested in switching to electric vehicles.

The government's role is also very large in encouraging this growth. Support in the form of tax incentives and construction of a network of Public Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (SPKLU) has increased public confidence in EV infrastructure.

Chairman of Gaikindo, Jongkie Sugiarto, acknowledged the positive trend in electric car sales. Even so, he emphasized that price remains the main consideration in the decision to buy a vehicle.

Seeing this development, It is estimated that the electric car market in Indonesia will continue to grow. A combination of government support, manufacturer's pricing strategy, and increasing public awareness is a strong foundation for the future of the national electric vehicle industry.
