An international standard car test center will reportedly be built starting in February 2022 in Bekasi. The Ministry of Transportation, through the Directorate General of Land Transportation, is preparing the construction of a car and motor vehicle testing center or what is usually called a proving ground. Later, this test center will meet International United Nation Regulation standards (UNR). This car testing center was built in collaboration with the Government and Business Entities.
The government intends to build better driving facilities so that the cars circulating in Indonesia will be as sophisticated as other leading countries. The target is this year 2022 a car testing center will be built and year 2024 Indonesia officially operates proving ground with international standards.
The car testing center in Bekasi is planned to be built on an area of land 90 hectare. The design of this car test center resembles actual road conditions. Later, there will be potholes in the road, uphill, and so on so that the certified cars meet the requirements in question.
The aim of building this car testing center is to improve driver safety, minimize the number of accidents, reducing air pollution from exhaust emissions, as well as opening up job opportunities for the community so that the Indonesian economy will grow.
Director General of Land Transportation, Budi Setiyadi plans to build this testing center in Bekasi as the largest car testing center in ASEAN. Budi also hopes that this testing center in Indonesia will become the pride of the Indonesian nation as one of the testing centers that has international standards in Asia.
The government intends to build 19 testing facilities that comply with UMR standards and will later be implemented in ASEAN countries. The facility offered for motorized vehicles and cars is a brake test, sound emission, speedometer, steering system, and disabilities.
Then added with a crash test, seat belt anchor, chair, exhaust emissions, fuel consumption, rearview mirror, to testing electric vehicles.
